Helpful Moving Tips
Planning a move doesn’t have to be overwhelming and exhausting. With a little preparation and organization, you can make the process much smoother. Here are some helpful tips to keep your move on track:
- Start Early
Begin planning your move at least 6–8 weeks in advance, longer for long-distance and overseas moves. This way, you have time to declutter, pack, and book your movers. - Declutter Before You Pack
Donate, sell, or dispose of items you no longer need. The less you move, the easier—and cheaper—your move will be. - Label Everything
Label boxes by room on the top and side of each box. Note if they contain fragile items. This helps movers place things in the right spot and alerts them to handle with care. - Pack an Essentials Box
Include items like toiletries, chargers, medications, important documents, and a few days’ worth of clothes. Keep this box with you during the move for easy access. - Notify Key Contacts
Update your address with the post office, banks, insurance providers, and any subscription services a few weeks before moving day to avoid later headaches. - Take Photos of Electronics
Before unplugging anything, take photos of how your cords are connected. This will make the setup easier in your new home or office.
About Us
Starting as a small moving company in 1956, APACA has grown to have two locations (Albuquerque and Alamogordo). In 2003, Chris DiJulio, current APACA owner and president, purchased APACA Moving & Storage, and the company joined forces with Lincoln Moving & Storage.
APACA’s team consists of many experienced individuals, including Albuquerque General Manager Michael Olmi (15 years at APACA) and International Move Manager, Mary Bishop (10 years of moving management experience). Owner Chris DiJulio also has over 55 years of experience in the moving industry.
At APACA, we are grateful for our community here in New Mexico, and we give back however we can. We partner with Move for Hunger, a nonprofit organization that collaborates with moving companies to collect non-perishable food items from customers when moving and deliver them to local food banks. Do Moving Companies Offer Comprehensive Quotes, Including All Costs and Services?
Getting a detailed quote that covers all aspects of your move is an important part of the moving process. A reputable moving company should always offer you a comprehensive quote for free. Be cautious of companies that charge you for a quote or who don’t bother to create a personalized one. According to The Culture Supplier, “Quotations can help in finding the right moving company that can provide you the moving services that you need for a price that doesn’t hurt your wallet.” Understanding the full scope of moving expenses upfront can significantly simplify the planning and budgeting for your move.
At Apaca Moving & Storage, we understand the importance of providing detailed quotes to our clients. Transparency is essential to building trust with our clients, and as experienced movers, we understand this better than anyone. We take the time to fully assess your moving requirements through an in-person consultation or a virtual one. Our goal is to ensure your peace of mind and satisfaction throughout the entire moving process. We believe in a meticulous approach to quoting that accurately reflects the tailored services we provide.
Do Moving Companies Offer Both Local and Long-Distance Moving Services?
Yes, it’s quite standard for moving companies to provide both local moves within the same state and long-distance relocations that cross state lines. This flexibility caters to the diverse needs of individuals and families, as moving distances can vary greatly. However, it’s important to note that not all movers offer long-distance services that cover the entire country. Certain companies may limit the distance they cover. Always verify that a mover can accommodate your specific destination before finalizing your choice.
There are important differences between local and long-distance moves that require different levels of expertise. For local moves, knowledge about the immediate area and its regulations is necessary. In contrast, long-distance moves need comprehensive planning and compliance with interstate regulations. Understanding these differences is essential for successfully managing both types of relocations.
Apaca Moving & Storage prides itself on handling both local and long-distance moves with exceptional care and expertise. Our team’s dedication ensures that every detail is considered, making your move as seamless as possible. We provide personalized moving services to meet our clients’ diverse needs. “Every move is a new adventure, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way,” states owner Chris DiJulio. Begin your journey by completing our online estimate form or giving us a call at (505) 262-1531.
Do Moving Companies in Albuquerque Supply Packing Materials and Services?
In Albuquerque, full-service moving companies often include packing services and high-quality packing materials. These services are crucial for moves of any size, providing proper protection for every item. Using sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, and plastic wrap helps protect your belongings so they arrive safely at your new home.
These companies typically employ skilled packers who are well-versed in the art of packing a wide array of items. They are experts at packing and will ensure your belongings are carefully protected from damage, regardless of size.
At Apaca Moving & Storage, we provide a stress-free moving experience by carefully packing and handling your belongings. Owner Chris DiJulio highlights, “Our team is equipped with the finest packing materials, and they bring a level of expertise that is unmatched. Whether you’re looking for help with a few special items or need comprehensive packing services.”
Should Moving Companies Have Certain Insurance Policies and Licenses?
Moving companies are required to have specific licenses and insurance to legally operate and protect their customers’ belongings. Movers.com highlights, “You should find a company that is properly licensed to operate in your state and follows all necessary federal moving regulations.” This ensures that the moving company is liable for any damage or loss that occurs during transit. Moving companies generally carry general liability and worker’s compensation insurance to protect everyone involved in the moving process.
Moving companies must have a USDOT license number to operate across state lines. This license serves as a unique identifier and ensures that the company complies with regulations and safety practices. You can verify a moving company’s USDOT license through the FMCSA’s Federal Movers Database.
Moving companies operating within a state must obtain specific state licenses. Each state has its own requirements, which vary in name and specifications. To operate legally in New Mexico, moving companies must get the appropriate state license. In California, you need a mandatory CPUC license for operations, which is different from licenses in other states.
At Apaca Moving & Storage, we maintain all required licenses and insurance policies. This helps us ensure that we operate within the law while also giving peace of mind to our clients. We operate under our USDOT license (#), Motor Carrier (MC) license (#) and MPRC License (#) while complying with all regulations for our services in Albuquerque and the surrounding areas. Our owner, Chris DiJulio, emphasizes, “Our top priority is to protect our clients’ possessions.” We prioritize secure and reliable moves by following necessary protection and compliance standards.
How to Gauge a Moving Company’s Reputation and What Reviews Reveal About Their Services?
When choosing a moving company in Albuquerque, it’s important to consider its reputation. Customer reviews on platforms like Google and Yelp provide valuable insights into the reliability, professionalism, and overall quality of service. According to BrightLocal’s Consumer Review Survey, “46% of consumers feel that online business reviews are as trustworthy as personal recommendations from friends or family.”
Before hiring a moving company, it is important to check their complaint history. Use the Department of Transportation’s mover search tool, to get reliable information on a company. This way, you can avoid any surprises and make an informed decision based on factual data. Researching a company’s complaint history is a crucial step in ensuring a smooth move.
At Apaca Moving & Storage, we are proud of the strong reputation we have built in the Albuquerque community. “We work hard to make our customers happy, and it shows in the great things they say about us,” states owner Chris DiJulio. We aim to provide the best service so that every move is smooth and worry-free for our clients.” Our commitment to straightforward, reliable service is why so many of our customers have left positive reviews. We encourage you to read our reviews to see how dedicated we are to taking care of our customers.
What Kind of Protection Do Albuquerque Moving Companies Offer for Damaged or Missing Items During a Move?
Understanding the available coverage options for lost or damaged items during a move in Albuquerque is important. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, “Your mover is responsible for the value of the goods you asked them to transport.” The most basic protection provided is known as Limited Liability Coverage, which is required by government regulations. This coverage compensates at 60 cents per pound per item. If a 25-pound TV, for instance, were damaged or lost, the compensation under this plan would be limited to $15. This coverage is provided automatically at no extra cost but offers limited protection.
Apaca Moving & Storage offers different protection plans for your belongings. If you want more protection, you may opt for the Full Value Protection plan. This is the more comprehensive, but also more expensive, option for protecting your belongings.” This plan covers the current market value of any lost or damaged goods. It also covers the cost of repairs for items that can be fixed.” But please note that the plan only compensates for the current market value of the lost or damaged item.
Choose the Items of Extraordinary Value plan for high-value items like antiques, artwork, or jewelry. You must declare these items to Apaca before the move to ensure their full protection. Failing to do so could result in inadequate coverage. Our owner, Chris DiJulio explains, “Our goal is to offer peace of mind and security for your belongings.” We understand that choosing the right protection plan is a significant decision. That’s why we’re here to guide our clients through selecting the best option for their move.”
Apaca is committed to delivering a moving experience that combines efficiency, security, and customer satisfaction. Whether you’re moving across town or the country, your valuables will be protected in a way that best suits your needs.
