The crew was amazing and energetic! Randy, Carlos, Octavio, Ernest, and Kaleb made this move a wonder experience and kept our house looking good with their attention to detail and care. I recommend this crew for any job and if you get them you will be blessed with great service.

I’ve done several moves around the world and I have to commend Alpaca Moving and Storage for their excellent work and professionalism. The crew size was actually reflective of the size of my shipment (other moves in the past sent minimal crew) and they were very respectful of the property. They had a system in place that made things move quickly and efficiently. The items that were disassembled at the point of origin were reassembled and reassembled well. If I have to move ever again they will be my first call.

We just wrapped up our best military move in 26 years and APACA was one of the heroes of the effort. Our 15,000lbs of household goods were packed up in Oklahoma City expecting a direct delivery move into a base home but our home was switched while we were on the road and APACA came through as the temporary storage for the five weeks we had to wait until we could move in.We move every two to three years in the military so we know the benefit of a direct delivery move that avoids several more sets of hands associated with loading and unloading to storage and finally on to your home. We were nervous having to add a storage stop to the move but APACA was fantastic from the start helping me collect motorcycles from the shipment that we’d... need for transportation during the unexpected five week wait for a home. They kept in touch over the weeks verifying schedules and on delivery day they arrived as scheduled despite how unpredictable the Air Force gate security process can be. The entire team was professional and careful with our household goods and the home. For the first time in 26 years we had zero broken dishes, glass, or picture frames. Plenty of furniture padding was used resulting in only one noticeable chip on a large heavy dresser which is truly fantastic. We’re realistic and experienced regarding what typically happens on moves with awkward heavy furniture and we were pleasantly surprised at how carefully everything was handled. Our bicycles suffered some scuffs, a few things needed some wiping down to return them to pre-move condition, and a couple extremely fragile aircraft and boat models will need some minor straightforward repairs, but nothing unexpected or unreasonable. Everything that was important to us made it in fantastic shape.Moving is hard and filled with opportunities to break valuable and important things but APACA impressed me so much that when it came time to set up ‘non-temporary storage’ for the furniture that wouldn’t fit in the base home we prioritized them #1 on our wish list to come back. I can wholeheartedly recommend the APACA teams, planning representatives, and leadership that we worked with on this move (Aug 2023) and I will put them #1 on our list when it’s time to leave Albuquerque. Thanks APACA!Chris & Tammyread more

APACA helped move our household when we moved from Albuquerque to Melbourne Australia. The 3 men that arrived on site- Randy Otero and his team (I believe his father and a cousin too) were a DELIGHT! They were so professional, so careful and cautious with our belongings. They packed everything with such detail and care and were very pleasant to talk to. We had a great moving experience! And we are so happy to report that everything arrived in Australia without a scratch or dent, and I am talking big pieces of furniture. Thank you Randy Otero and team!

APACA was assigned to deliver my household goods from storage during my PCS. The crew was on time, professional, and friendly. They were very careful when unloading and placing my goods and worked with me to check off every box that came into the house. No items were broken and the delivery was fast and smooth. Would recommend!

Cathy provided very clear and timely information regarding my move, Flint and his crew were professional and treated my belongings with care and respect. Couldn’t have asked for a better crew! They made my move easy and stress free. If you’re doing a military move, request them as a preferred company.

So my employer gave me three moving companies they would pay for as part of relocation. I looked up all three, Apaca had the lowest google review so I ignored them. I tried one company - they would say I'll call you right back and I wouldn't hear from them in a week. The second couldn't remember any details of my move from one conversation to the next. Finally, we decided to call Apaca since we were getting nowhere and nothing scheduled with the other companies. Glad we did. Apaca did a fantastic job. At the point in the process we called them, we needed to move fast. They were able to get us scheduled, move an entire house with a hot tub and sauna and a piano heavier then the hot tub. They were professional, extremely courteous. ... They made a very stressful move go very easily. The movers were absolutely fantastic - very grateful to have had them move us. Not sure why there were bad reviews - this is a great company to work more

The only complaint I have is that it took them a few days to get my stuff to my apartment after they received my crates from the trucking company. Otherwise they were great. The crew was very quick and efficient at unloading my stuff and organizing it in my house. They worked late that day to make sure everything was satisfactory. The crew chief was also kind enough to point out to me multiple items that had been damaged by the company that loaded my stuff prior to being shipped. He said he didn't want to hide anything to cover for his or the partner company. I appreciated his honesty and have since made the appropriate insurance claim.Based on my experience with the packing company I'll likely never use a moving company again, but... these guys were indeed the best part of the whole more

This company did their best to get my belongings to me as quickly as possible, despite hang ups with other parties. On moving day, only two men showed up due to the busy season. They worked tirelessly to unload and unwrap my belongings. The communication was great, and they took great care to ensure my satisfaction.

Local Movers in Albuquerque

Moving for the First Time?

Once you have chosen to move and decided on a company, you will receive an Order of Service, which is a record of the cost and dates of your chosen services. On the day of your local move, expect a team of skilled movers to collect your pre-arranged and labeled belongings and load them safely onto the moving truck. Once everything is ready to go, they’ll transport your belongings to the new location. Upon arrival, your items will be carefully distributed to the appropriate rooms based on the labels on each box. Following this, you’ll be given a Bill of Lading, which acts as a log for details like locations and delivery dates. Then, you will have the chance to compare each item against the Bill of Lading and inspect them for any potential damage that may have happened along the way. Once you are satisfied with the condition of your items, you’ll confirm the delivery with your signature on the Bill of Lading, marking the successful end of your move.

Are My Movers Fully Licensed and Properly Insured?

When choosing a local moving company, there are a number of factors to consider. One factor that often goes overlooked is if the mover is fully licensed and properly insured. The last thing you want is to find out the hard way that the company you have chosen for your local move is not licensed and has raised the price on you. Or, even worse, have stolen your items.

According to an interview with NJ Spotlight News, if you use unlicensed movers, you are at risk of theft, unsafe moving trucks, and even extortion. The article tells of the dangers of unlicensed movers and how they can actually hold movers’ belongings hostage.

Standard industry practices dictate that moving companies carry general liability and worker’s compensation insurance policies. Moreover, local moving companies are required to hold licenses in their home state and be federally licensed by the USDOT (United States Department of Transportation). The USDOT issues licenses for long-distance moves, which can be verified through the FMCSA Federal Mover’s Database. Although many movers display their license numbers on their websites, you should always run their license numbers through the database to be sure, as sometimes the numbers are fake.

While this is a scary thought, we prioritize transparency regarding our licenses and insurance at Apaca Moving & Storage. Our credentials, including a DOT number of 729519, State license number NMPRC 5590, and MC number 333895, are readily available to our customers. In addition, we carry general liability plans and workers’ compensation policies, so all parties involved with the move are protected.

How Much do Movers Cost in Albuquerque?

The price of moving can vary quite a bit depending on each local market. However, the best way to get an idea of what a move will cost is to contact at least three different moving companies and ask for a pricing quote.

According to MoveBuddha, “The typical cost for hiring movers in Albuquerque, NM is $80 per hour with a total move cost ranging from $284 to $2,628, on average. If you’re moving out of New Mexico, the cost of hiring long-distance movers in Albuquerque really depends on where you’re moving.” From this, we can determine what a fair price is for a local move. This is a factor you can take into account when choosing between multiple movers.

Here at Apaca Moving & Storage, we offer free pricing quotes so you know how much a move will cost you before you move. We believe in transparency with our customers, so you aren’t surprised when you get the bill. “To get started on your move with Apaca Moving & Storage, Inc.,” says owner Chris DiJulio, “send in a request for an instant online quote for the estimated costs of our services. How Quickly Can Movers Complete My Local Albuquerque Move?

Most moves can be completed in less than a day. One estimate from Hire A Helper states that an average local move in Albuquerque takes about 3 hours. They go further to state that the best time of the year to move is February, and the least busy day to move is Sunday, with the least busy weekday being Wednesday.

With the actual move being so quick, most of the time is spent on the preparation. Packing for a move can take weeks to complete. MoveBuddha states, “Packing is a gradual process that should begin four weeks before the move and end a few days before moving day. It’s a good idea to make a packing timeline to know what needs to be packed and when. The things you use least get packed first.” From this, we can learn a good strategy and timeline for packing, which is often the hardest part.

With our Full Packing Services and Storage options, we are confident that Apaca Moving & Storage can help you pack for your local move. Providing professional-grade packing materials, we take pride in our expert packing services. “Whether you are moving down the street, across town, or from one end of the state to the other, expect care, swiftness, and courtesy from our team,” says our owner, Chris DiJulio.

Will Local Movers Offer Me Any Guarantees?

It is quite uncommon for movers to offer guarantees, at least not without a cost attached to it. Guarantees open moving companies up to liabilities and risk. Those liabilities can prove to be quite expensive and, in many cases, can be what causes businesses to go under. Movers want to have as much liability “cushion” as possible.

With this being said, when a company does offer a guarantee, it holds a lot of weight. One guarantee we can offer, according to our Services Page, is, “The safety of your goods is guaranteed in our secure, temperature-controlled buildings monitored for fire and intrusion. Your goods are completely insured while in our care.” This way, we know you can rest easy when your items are in our care and will return to you safely and speedily.

How Will My Movers Handle Items Being Damaged or Lost During the Move?

Moving companies must provide coverage in the form of a “Moving Valuation.” Government regulations state that all movers must provide coverage of 60 cents per pound per item or more. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration gives an example, “If your mover lost or damaged a 50-inch TV weighing 25 pounds, you would only receive $15 (60 cents x 25 pounds).” This Moving Valuation would be covered by our Limited Liability Coverage plan. This provides only minimal coverage and usually is at no added cost at all. These plans are often the lowest coverage offered and are not recommended, especially when choosing to move valuable and expensive items.

Typically, this is not enough coverage for most people when moving. This is why most movers offer moving valuation plans with far more coverage. Plans such as full value protection plans. These are more expensive but cover the current market value of any damaged or lost goods in the entire moving process. This can even cover the costs to repair items that may have been broken that can still be fixed. Yet this plan still does not cover items that may hold sentimental value, as they would only be replaced at the current market value instead of the value it may hold to you.

Finally, the highest protection plan is for “Items of Extraordinary Value,” and it holds the maximum coverage of any of the plans we offer. This covers any antique, artistic, and jewelry items that are declared to Apaca. Failure to declare such items may result in limited coverage of them. For best results, all items of extraordinary value should be declared prior to the move so the movers may take adequate steps to ensure their safety.

Apaca Moving & Storage offers the following plans:

  • Limited Liability Coverage,
  • Full Value Protection
  • Items of Extraordinary Value

We are confident that this variety of plans can meet the unique needs of our customers and the value of their belongings when moving. We understand choosing a protection plan is a major decision, and we work closely with our clients to help them choose the most appropriate and affordable protection for their move.

How Can I Find the Best Local Movers in New Mexico?

Choosing a local Albuquerque moving company can be a daunting task. However, there are some helpful criteria to help you choose the best local moving company for your needs. One of the first criteria is how long the company has been in business. According to Forbes, “If a moving company has been in business for a decade or more, you can expect them to hire and properly train the right people for the job.”

Among other criteria, also lists some red flags to look out for:

  • Demanding cash deposit upfront
  • Movers that aren’t professional
  • Movers using rented moving vans
  • Unlicensed or uninsured movers

Here at Apaca, we have been helping people move for nearly 70 years. Founded in 1956, you know we are a trusted business that only hires trained professionals. How Can a Local Moving Company Accommodate the Move to My Schedule?

The best way to express your concerns about a schedule is to simply tell your local moving company as early on as possible. The earlier you tell them, the better the chance you have of them making the necessary arrangements. suggests: “Be very forthcoming with your moving company about your expectations for a moving date.”

Typically, most moving companies do not accommodate a customer’s schedule. This is where Apaca Moving & Storage differs. We have a flexible schedule so that we can work with your desired moving date and time.

Whatever day a local move is scheduled, remember a local Albuquerque move only takes around 3 hours, depending on the size and distance of your move.
