The crew was amazing and energetic! Randy, Carlos, Octavio, Ernest, and Kaleb made this move a wonder experience and kept our house looking good with their attention to detail and care. I recommend this crew for any job and if you get them you will be blessed with great service.

I’ve done several moves around the world and I have to commend Alpaca Moving and Storage for their excellent work and professionalism. The crew size was actually reflective of the size of my shipment (other moves in the past sent minimal crew) and they were very respectful of the property. They had a system in place that made things move quickly and efficiently. The items that were disassembled at the point of origin were reassembled and reassembled well. If I have to move ever again they will be my first call.

We just wrapped up our best military move in 26 years and APACA was one of the heroes of the effort. Our 15,000lbs of household goods were packed up in Oklahoma City expecting a direct delivery move into a base home but our home was switched while we were on the road and APACA came through as the temporary storage for the five weeks we had to wait until we could move in.We move every two to three years in the military so we know the benefit of a direct delivery move that avoids several more sets of hands associated with loading and unloading to storage and finally on to your home. We were nervous having to add a storage stop to the move but APACA was fantastic from the start helping me collect motorcycles from the shipment that we’d... need for transportation during the unexpected five week wait for a home. They kept in touch over the weeks verifying schedules and on delivery day they arrived as scheduled despite how unpredictable the Air Force gate security process can be. The entire team was professional and careful with our household goods and the home. For the first time in 26 years we had zero broken dishes, glass, or picture frames. Plenty of furniture padding was used resulting in only one noticeable chip on a large heavy dresser which is truly fantastic. We’re realistic and experienced regarding what typically happens on moves with awkward heavy furniture and we were pleasantly surprised at how carefully everything was handled. Our bicycles suffered some scuffs, a few things needed some wiping down to return them to pre-move condition, and a couple extremely fragile aircraft and boat models will need some minor straightforward repairs, but nothing unexpected or unreasonable. Everything that was important to us made it in fantastic shape.Moving is hard and filled with opportunities to break valuable and important things but APACA impressed me so much that when it came time to set up ‘non-temporary storage’ for the furniture that wouldn’t fit in the base home we prioritized them #1 on our wish list to come back. I can wholeheartedly recommend the APACA teams, planning representatives, and leadership that we worked with on this move (Aug 2023) and I will put them #1 on our list when it’s time to leave Albuquerque. Thanks APACA!Chris & Tammyread more

APACA helped move our household when we moved from Albuquerque to Melbourne Australia. The 3 men that arrived on site- Randy Otero and his team (I believe his father and a cousin too) were a DELIGHT! They were so professional, so careful and cautious with our belongings. They packed everything with such detail and care and were very pleasant to talk to. We had a great moving experience! And we are so happy to report that everything arrived in Australia without a scratch or dent, and I am talking big pieces of furniture. Thank you Randy Otero and team!

APACA was assigned to deliver my household goods from storage during my PCS. The crew was on time, professional, and friendly. They were very careful when unloading and placing my goods and worked with me to check off every box that came into the house. No items were broken and the delivery was fast and smooth. Would recommend!

Cathy provided very clear and timely information regarding my move, Flint and his crew were professional and treated my belongings with care and respect. Couldn’t have asked for a better crew! They made my move easy and stress free. If you’re doing a military move, request them as a preferred company.

So my employer gave me three moving companies they would pay for as part of relocation. I looked up all three, Apaca had the lowest google review so I ignored them. I tried one company - they would say I'll call you right back and I wouldn't hear from them in a week. The second couldn't remember any details of my move from one conversation to the next. Finally, we decided to call Apaca since we were getting nowhere and nothing scheduled with the other companies. Glad we did. Apaca did a fantastic job. At the point in the process we called them, we needed to move fast. They were able to get us scheduled, move an entire house with a hot tub and sauna and a piano heavier then the hot tub. They were professional, extremely courteous. ... They made a very stressful move go very easily. The movers were absolutely fantastic - very grateful to have had them move us. Not sure why there were bad reviews - this is a great company to work with.read more

The only complaint I have is that it took them a few days to get my stuff to my apartment after they received my crates from the trucking company. Otherwise they were great. The crew was very quick and efficient at unloading my stuff and organizing it in my house. They worked late that day to make sure everything was satisfactory. The crew chief was also kind enough to point out to me multiple items that had been damaged by the company that loaded my stuff prior to being shipped. He said he didn't want to hide anything to cover for his or the partner company. I appreciated his honesty and have since made the appropriate insurance claim.Based on my experience with the packing company I'll likely never use a moving company again, but... these guys were indeed the best part of the whole process.read more

This company did their best to get my belongings to me as quickly as possible, despite hang ups with other parties. On moving day, only two men showed up due to the busy season. They worked tirelessly to unload and unwrap my belongings. The communication was great, and they took great care to ensure my satisfaction.

Los Alamos Movers

Moving for the First Time?

Are you planning a relocation to Los Alamos? Initially, a moving company will provide you with a quote outlining the costs based on the quantity and type of items you’re transporting. After you accept this quote, you’ll be introduced to your dedicated moving coordinator, who will be your primary contact and ensure a smooth process.

You will then receive an Order of Service Agreement from a customer service representative detailing your selected moving services, their scheduled dates, and associated costs. After you sign off on this agreement, your moving coordinator will assist you in organizing the logistics of your move.

On the day of the move, trained movers will carefully load your belongings, from heavy furniture to delicate pieces, with utmost care. You’ll be handed a Bill of Lading, a comprehensive receipt that includes an inventory of your belongings loaded in the van and the expected delivery dates and locations.

Upon the arrival of your possessions at your new home in Los Alamos, you’ll verify each item against the Bill of Lading. To conclude, you’ll review everything with the team leader to ensure your belongings are in pristine condition. Once you confirm their status, you’ll finalize the Bill of Lading, and just like that, you’re ready to embark on your new journey in Los Alamos!

Depending on your moving needs, they will:

  • Pack your belongings
  • Load them onto the moving truck

Do Moving Companies in Los Alamos Have Moving Licenses and Insurance?

Reputable moving companies in Los Alamos operate with all necessary licenses and insurance. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, “Companies that operate commercial vehicles transporting passengers or hauling cargo in interstate commerce must be registered with the FMCSA and must have a USDOT Number.”

Local movers in New Mexico need an NMPRC. This ensures they are legally compliant and can provide financial protection against damages or losses during your move. Choosing a licensed and insured moving company helps protect you from potential moving scams and provides peace of mind throughout the moving process. You can check if your moving company has an NMPRC on New Mexico’s Public Regulation Commission website, and you can check their USDOT on the FMCSA’s Mover Database.

APACA Moving & Storage is fully licensed and insured for operations in Los Alamos and beyond. We carry three moving licenses:

  • NMPRC License #5590
  • USDOT License #729519
  • MC License #333895

“We also have general liability and worker’s comp insurance policies to comply with industry standards and keep all parties involved with the move safe and protected,” says Albuquerque General Manager Michael Olmi.

How Am I Covered if My Belongings Are Lost or Damaged During the Move?

Moving companies usually offer different levels of liability coverage to protect your belongings during a move. The two main types of coverage are usually Limited Liability and Full Value Protection. Limited Liability Coverage, also called Released Value Protection, is often included at no additional cost and offers minimal protection based on the item’s weight. According to the FMCSA, “With released value protection, there’s no additional cost but you’ll only receive up to 60 cents per pound for an item.”

Full Value Protection, usually offered at an additional fee, provides more comprehensive coverage where the moving company is responsible for the repair, replacement, or monetary compensation of items at their full market value. For items with a value of at least $100/lb, you will need to list them on an Items of Extraordinary Value Declaration.

At APACA Moving & Storage, we offer Limited Liability, Full Value Protection, and Items of Extraordinary Value options. We encourage our customers to carefully consider which level of coverage best meets their needs, ensuring they have adequate protection tailored to the value of their possessions. “By offering these choices, we aim to provide confidence and security, making your moving experience in Los Alamos as worry-free as possible,” says owner Owner Chris DiJulio.

How Early Should I Schedule My Los Alamos Move?

Today’s Homeowner states, “The easy answer to how soon you should book a mover is as soon as possible.” It’s advisable to schedule your move in Los Alamos as early as possible, particularly during busy seasons like summer and early fall when moving services are in high demand. Ideally, you should book your move at least two months in advance, especially if you plan to move during the summer months. Early booking can help ensure that you secure the moving date that best fits your schedule.

At APACA, we recommend contacting us as soon as you know your moving date. Early booking allows us to ensure that we can accommodate your preferred schedule and provide you with the best possible service. With over a century of experience, we know that planning ahead can make your move smoother and less stressful. However, if you need a last-minute move or your moving date is less than two months out, please fill out our online estimate form. “As long as our schedule allows, we are happy to accommodate your moving timeline in Los Alamos,” says Albuquerque General Manager Michael Olmi.

What Does the Process for Handling Disputes or Claims Look Like?

The process for handling disputes or claims in the moving industry typically begins when a customer notices an issue, such as damage to their belongings or a service that does not meet their expectations. According to the FMCSA, “If a problem arises with your household goods carrier (mover), you should first attempt to work out an agreement to resolve the dispute. But if you and the mover are not able to agree, you have two options:

  • Seek an arbitration hearing; or
  • Initiate legal action against your mover.”

The first step is usually for the customer to formally notify the moving company of the problem, preferably in writing, including all relevant details of the claim. The moving company then reviews the claim, often assessing damages, verifying details against service records, and sometimes conducting physical inspections. Following the review, the company typically responds with an offer to resolve the issue, which might involve repairing or replacing items or providing financial compensation, depending on the chosen level of coverage.

At APACA Moving & Storage, we are committed to handling disputes or claims fairly. We encourage our customers to contact us as soon as an issue arises so that we can work together toward a resolution. With over 100 years of experience, our dedicated moving specialists are trained to handle disputes with empathy and professionalism, ensuring every customer feels heard and valued throughout the process. “We aim to resolve claims within a reasonable timeframe so our customers can settle into their new homes or offices in Los Alamos without lingering concerns,” says Owner Chris DiJulio.
