Once you have chosen to move and decided on a company, you will receive an Order of Service, which is a record of the cost and dates of your chosen services. On the day of your local move, expect a team of skilled movers to collect your pre-arranged and labeled belongings and load them safely onto the moving truck. Once everything is ready to go, they’ll transport your belongings to the new location. Upon arrival, your items will be carefully distributed to the appropriate rooms based on the labels on each box. Following this, you’ll be given a Bill of Lading, which acts as a log for details like locations and delivery dates. Then, you will have the chance to compare each item against the Bill of Lading and inspect them for any potential damage that may have happened along the way. Once you are satisfied with the condition of your items, you’ll confirm the delivery with your signature on the Bill of Lading, marking the successful end of your move.

When choosing a local moving company, there are a number of factors to consider. One factor that often goes overlooked is if the mover is fully licensed and properly insured. The last thing you want is to find out the hard way that the company you have chosen for your local move is not licensed and has raised the price on you. Or, even worse, have stolen your items.
According to an interview with NJ Spotlight News, if you use unlicensed movers, you are at risk of theft, unsafe moving trucks, and even extortion. The article tells of the dangers of unlicensed movers and how they can actually hold movers’ belongings hostage.
Standard industry practices dictate that moving companies carry general liability and worker’s compensation insurance policies. Moreover, local moving companies are required to hold licenses in their home state and be federally licensed by the USDOT (United States Department of Transportation). The USDOT issues licenses for long-distance moves, which can be verified through the FMCSA Federal Mover’s Database. Although many movers display their license numbers on their websites, you should always run their license numbers through the database to be sure, as sometimes the numbers are fake.
While this is a scary thought, we prioritize transparency regarding our licenses and insurance at Apaca Moving & Storage. Our credentials, including a DOT number of 729519, State license number NMPRC 5590, and MC number 333895, are readily available to our customers. In addition, we carry general liability plans and workers’ compensation policies, so all parties involved with the move are protected.
The price of moving can vary quite a bit depending on each local market. However, the best way to get an idea of what a move will cost is to contact at least three different moving companies and ask for a pricing quote.
According to MoveBuddha, “The typical cost for hiring movers in Albuquerque, NM is $80 per hour with a total move cost ranging from $284 to $2,628, on average. If you’re moving out of New Mexico, the cost of hiring long-distance movers in Albuquerque really depends on where you’re moving.” From this, we can determine what a fair price is for a local move. This is a factor you can take into account when choosing between multiple movers.
Here at Apaca Moving & Storage, we offer free pricing quotes so you know how much a move will cost you before you move. We believe in transparency with our customers, so you aren’t surprised when you get the bill. “To get started on your move with Apaca Moving & Storage, Inc.,” says owner Chris DiJulio, “send in a request for an instant online quote for the estimated costs of our services. You can also contact us to schedule a survey at your home.” Please fill out our free estimate form to get a free pricing quote today!

Most moves can be completed in less than a day. One estimate from Hire A Helper states that an average local move in Albuquerque takes about 3 hours. They go further to state that the best time of the year to move is February, and the least busy day to move is Sunday, with the least busy weekday being Wednesday.
With the actual move being so quick, most of the time is spent on the preparation. Packing for a move can take weeks to complete. MoveBuddha states, “Packing is a gradual process that should begin four weeks before the move and end a few days before moving day. It’s a good idea to make a packing timeline to know what needs to be packed and when. The things you use least get packed first.” From this, we can learn a good strategy and timeline for packing, which is often the hardest part.
With our Full Packing Services and Storage options, we are confident that Apaca Moving & Storage can help you pack for your local move. Providing professional-grade packing materials, we take pride in our expert packing services. “Whether you are moving down the street, across town, or from one end of the state to the other, expect care, swiftness, and courtesy from our team,” says our owner, Chris DiJulio.
It is quite uncommon for movers to offer guarantees, at least not without a cost attached to it. Guarantees open moving companies up to liabilities and risk. Those liabilities can prove to be quite expensive and, in many cases, can be what causes businesses to go under. Movers want to have as much liability “cushion” as possible.
With this being said, when a company does offer a guarantee, it holds a lot of weight. One guarantee we can offer, according to our Services Page, is, “The safety of your goods is guaranteed in our secure, temperature-controlled buildings monitored for fire and intrusion. Your goods are completely insured while in our care.” This way, we know you can rest easy when your items are in our care and will return to you safely and speedily.

Moving companies must provide coverage in the form of a “Moving Valuation.” Government regulations state that all movers must provide coverage of 60 cents per pound per item or more. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration gives an example, “If your mover lost or damaged a 50-inch TV weighing 25 pounds, you would only receive $15 (60 cents x 25 pounds).” This Moving Valuation would be covered by our Limited Liability Coverage plan. This provides only minimal coverage and usually is at no added cost at all. These plans are often the lowest coverage offered and are not recommended, especially when choosing to move valuable and expensive items.
Typically, this is not enough coverage for most people when moving. This is why most movers offer moving valuation plans with far more coverage. Plans such as full value protection plans. These are more expensive but cover the current market value of any damaged or lost goods in the entire moving process. This can even cover the costs to repair items that may have been broken that can still be fixed. Yet this plan still does not cover items that may hold sentimental value, as they would only be replaced at the current market value instead of the value it may hold to you.
Finally, the highest protection plan is for “Items of Extraordinary Value,” and it holds the maximum coverage of any of the plans we offer. This covers any antique, artistic, and jewelry items that are declared to Apaca. Failure to declare such items may result in limited coverage of them. For best results, all items of extraordinary value should be declared prior to the move so the movers may take adequate steps to ensure their safety.
Apaca Moving & Storage offers the following plans:
We are confident that this variety of plans can meet the unique needs of our customers and the value of their belongings when moving. We understand choosing a protection plan is a major decision, and we work closely with our clients to help them choose the most appropriate and affordable protection for their move.

Choosing a local Albuquerque moving company can be a daunting task. However, there are some helpful criteria to help you choose the best local moving company for your needs. One of the first criteria is how long the company has been in business. According to Forbes, “If a moving company has been in business for a decade or more, you can expect them to hire and properly train the right people for the job.”
Among other criteria, Moving.com also lists some red flags to look out for:
Here at Apaca, we have been helping people move for nearly 70 years. Founded in 1956, you know we are a trusted business that only hires trained professionals. We offer free moving estimates with no hidden fees, so you know exactly what you are paying for. The best way to express your concerns about a schedule is to simply tell your local moving company as early on as possible. The earlier you tell them, the better the chance you have of them making the necessary arrangements. Relocation.com suggests: “Be very forthcoming with your moving company about your expectations for a moving date.”
Typically, most moving companies do not accommodate a customer’s schedule. This is where Apaca Moving & Storage differs. We have a flexible schedule so that we can work with your desired moving date and time.
Whatever day a local move is scheduled, remember a local Albuquerque move only takes around 3 hours, depending on the size and distance of your move. You will always be given an estimated moving timeline in your free moving estimate. And as our owner, Chris DiJulio, said, “Expect care, swiftness, and courtesy from our team.” Get started on your local Albuquerque move with Apaca Moving & Storage today by filling out our free estimate form.
